International polo player, coach and umpire Charlie Muldoon to talk all things polo on Because of Horses podcast April 12
The name Muldoon is synonymous with polo and Charlie Muldoon inherited his family’s love for the sport. Polo has taken him around the world as a player, coach and an official. He has served as captain of the U.S. Polo Team and has competed in some of the world’s most important polo tournaments, including the U.S. Polo Open, the FIP World Polo Championship, the Geneva Open and the East Coast Open.
Charlie shares his passion for polo by teaching clinics at clubs around the world. He is the owner of Summerhill Polo in Poolesville, Maryland and director of its polo academy. Charlie and U.S. Polo Association Certified Instructor Dario Sotomayor offer customized programs to teach players at all levels.
Summerhill Polo hosts weekly family-friendly exhibition matches which feature high-speed play and the traditional divot stomping between chukkers.
Currently, Charlie is the executive director of the U.S. Polo Association’s Umpires, LLC, which presides over the official rules in tournaments around the world. He was instrumental in bringing drones to polo to bring clarity to the umpiring process. He also serves as a governor-at-large for the U.S. Polo Association.
